US Greenwich Forum to convene first international version in Hong Kong

HONG KONG (Reuters) -The Greenwich Economic Forum (GEF), a global alternative investment industry conference, will be held in Hong Kong in June, the first time the forum will convene outside the U.S. as the city strives to restore business confidence after COVID-19.

The two-day event, on June 15-16, will bring together “top international finance thought leaders at a crucial moment for East-West relations and commerce”, GEF said on its new GEF-Hong Kong website.

Hong Kong’s economy was battered by long COVID lockdowns that were finally largely scrapped early this year. The former British colony and Asian financial hub has since then been trying to attract back tourists and foreign capital.

Last month, the city held a Wealth Summit and announced a series of measures to woo family offices.

The GEF conference is in partnership with Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Ltd (HKEX).

GEF, founded in 2018 in Greenwich, Connecticut, said confirmed speakers include Nobel laureate in economics Michael Spence, HKEX CEO Nicolas Aguzin, Mobius Capital Partners founding partner Mark Mobius and Two Sigma Asia Pacific CEO Kenny Lam.
