Colombia Electoral Watchdog Is Investigating Petro’s Former Campaign Manager

Colombia’s electoral authority requested the nation’s tax agency to turn over information on President Gustavo Petro’s former campaign manager, Ricardo Roa, according to a CNE document obtained by Bloomberg.

(Bloomberg) — Colombia’s electoral authority requested the nation’s tax agency to turn over information on President Gustavo Petro’s former campaign manager, Ricardo Roa, according to a CNE document obtained by Bloomberg.

The electoral watchdog is investigating the presidential campaign on potential mismatches between revenue and expenses reported to the electoral authority. The decision comes after recent illegal campaign financing allegations from President Petro’s son, who was charged with money laundering and illicit enrichment in early August. Nicolás Petro organized events and fundraising for his father’s campaign in Colombia’s Caribbean region.

Roa, the CEO of state-controlled oil company Ecopetrol since April, said he wasn’t considering resigning his role at the helm of the company during an interview with local media last week.
