Americans Are Tying the Knot Again After Pandemic Pause

The number of US marriages bounced back in 2021 from a 57-year-low the year before during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic.

(Bloomberg) — The number of US marriages bounced back in 2021 from a 57-year-low the year before during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Marriages rose 18% to 1.98 million in 2021, according to a blog post by the National Center for Health Statistics. Both the number and rate of marriage remained below their 2019 levels, however. At 6 marriages per 1,000 people, the 2021 ratio was the second-lowest in data going back to 1900.

Every state saw an increase — expect North Dakota. The rates rose the most in Montana, Utah and Texas.
