KUALA LUMPUR (Reuters) – Malaysia, the world’s second-largest producer of palm oil, on Wednesday launched a system to facilitate management of transactional data along the supply chain of the commodity.
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said the Sawit Intelligent Management System (SIMS) aimed to “promote self-regulation, reduce government oversight and provide… decision-making insights,” without providing further details.
Anwar said the government has also proposed greater cooperation between the major palm oil industry players and smallholders to raise productivity.
