Sea’s Shopee opens new distribution center in Brazil

SAO PAULO (Reuters) – Shopping app Shopee has opened a new distribution center in Brazil, the second-largest of the nine it owns in the country, the company said on Wednesday.

Shopee’s new distribution center will be located in Guarulhos, near the city of Sao Paulo, and will be the second in that region, according to the firm.

Shopee, owned by Singapore’s Sea, established a marketplace in Brazil in 2020 in its first foray outside of Asia and now claims over three million local merchants in the country who account for more than 90% of the firm’s sales nationally.

“The opening of the new space aims to increasingly improve the experience of Brazilian consumers and sellers by optimizing processes from product collection to delivery,” Shopee said in a statement.

In addition to the nine distribution centers, the company has around 100 smaller logistics hubs and around 1,400 pick-up and delivery points, where sellers leave their products to be delivered to customers.
