LONDON (Reuters) – British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s Conservatives lost the previously safe parliamentary seat of Selby and Ainsty in northern England on Friday.
The Labour candidate Keir Maher won the seat with a majority of over 4,000 overturning a Conservative majority of 20,137 at the last general election.
Labour said before the results were announced that a victory would be the biggest majority the party has overturned at a by-election since World War Two.
